The Anchored Soul Blog

I was of delighted when the lovely Nicole Melton of The Anchored Soul Blog got in touch with me inviting me to be a guest blogger.  I love her vintage aesthetic. Both her and her fiancĂ© are graphic designers and they have such a great eye.  Both their style and the photographs they take are flawless!  She also has the loveliest Instagram account.

Be sure to check out the outfit post, which also includes my favorite local places to eat, drink and shop in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Everything's Coming Up Roses

The Rose Test Garden in Portland was lovely! Although the rose bushes weren't all in bloom (I'm sure Spring is the best season to visit) everything was green and lush.  Later in the afternoon, we headed to the Pearl District where we spotted the building above.  The architecture was stunning and the cafes with outdoor seating which lined it seem like great places to people watch.  I love just how walkable Portland is! We were able to walk from the Rose Test Garden to Powell's Books, Courier Coffee, the Pearl District Food Carts (best Polish food I've ever had), and Stumptown Coffee Roasters.  All while wearing my favorite jean jacket layered over a white Peter Pan Collar shirt and the dress I snagged from New Look.  I love the paisley pattern, and how comfy and light it is.

I'm not one to buy souvenirs.  I'd much rather buy something meaningful that I'll keep and love in the long run.  In Portland that one special piece was a Strange Ways Smiths vinyl we found at a record shop, which is now on display in our living room.

Portland Wanderings

Had an amazing time exploring Portland last weekend.  Our itinerary consisted of visiting bookstores, exploring vintage shops, rummaging through record shops and some sightseeing.  I especially enjoyed wandering around Hawthorne and the Pearl District.  I paired the oxblood frock I recently snagged from Modcloth with the jean jacket I seem to be living in lately,  and some monk-strap flats.  Definitely a memorable trip!

Into the Swing of Things

The semester is in full swing (pun intended), and given that it will be my last here at Berkeley, I had to cross an item off my Cal bucket list: hiking to the swing on the hill overlooking the campus.  The view was breathtaking!  I opted to wear one of my favorite dresses.  I love its mod 60s vibe and Peter Pan collar.  I paired it with a jean jacket, and added a pop of color in the form of a green scalloped satchel.  Definitely a memorable late summer day!

1) Absolutely had to have that daisy top!
2) Love Craft Spells! They self describe as The Smiths on a good day.
3) The green scalloped satchel I snagged.  One of my favorite recent finds.

Down by the Bay Bridge

I love a good chambray button up, and when I spotted one in a green floral print I had to have it.  I knew I could pair it with several other pieces in my closet, which is something I like to keep in mind when shopping for new items.  As much as I love dressing up, utility and comfort are very important, and I do have somewhat of a uniform I wear during the habitually busy semesters at Berkeley.  It usually consists of jeans, boots, a comfortable top and a warm jacket (pretty much what I wore above).  The weather year round is overcast and I hate being cold, so I usually layer up).

Jaze had the afternoon off, so we headed to the city to spend the day together.  I was expecting it to be a bit foggy around the Bay Bridge as usual, and was surprised with just how sunny it was (which is why we're squinting or looking down in those photos).  After wandering around the marina, we headed to a small record shop in The Mission District, and managed to find a 1940s jazz vinyl.  Lazy summer afternoons are my favorite.

Polka-dots in the City

The polka dot print and Peter Pan collar help make this top one of my favorites.  I paired it with the monk strap shoes I thrifted recently.  I just about fell over when I spotted them.  It was one of those rare moments in thrifting when you find exactly what you're looking for, in exactly the right color and in the right size.

Pinafore your thoughts?

Spent a lovely day in San Francisco with Jaze.  We headed to Haight, one of our favorite neighborhoods in the city.  Haight street is lined with vintage shops and record stores and is full of history.

With Bay Area weather being so warm lately, this Southern California girl has been one happy camper.  I finally got to wear my pinafore dress, and get thisI didn't have to layer it with tights and a cardigan as usual.

At a Crossroads

There is something achingly nostalgic about train tracks, especially old, worn-out routes no longer travelled.  Jaze and I wandered around these tracks near our apartment, which have a surprisingly good view of the San Francisco Bay.  We hung around to watch the sunset.  I was inspired by the vintage handbag I found at a local flea when drawing this outfit together.  I love black and cognac together, and I was beside myself when I found this bag, which is also functional since my laptop and notebook fit perfectly.  Wearing it reminded me that classes begin next month! Can't believe I'll be starting my last semester at Berkeley.  Definitely bittersweet.

Crimson and Collars

Digging this Asos dress. Love the Peter-Pan Collar, the contrasting stripes near the hemline, and its 1960s feel.  I thought I'd try another DIY, and I'm pleased with the results.  Wore it on an aftenoon date at Cal, which we spent having coffee and lounging on Memorial Glade.
